The Fashion Design program is designed to cultivate a professional and creative mindset in students, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary in design, technology, and merchandising to succeed in the ever-evolving apparel industry. The program emphasizes both innovation and practicality, offering a contemporary understanding of design to prepare students for diverse careers in the global fashion industry. Students gain expertise in a wide range of areas, including design principles, fashion and design history, world art history, textile theory, traditional crafts and textile techniques, dyeing and printing methods, fashion illustration, surface ornamentation, fabric study, trend forecasting, presentation, and promotion. In addition, the program provides a strong technical foundation in ergonomics, garment manufacturing processes and machinery, pattern making, draping and grading, sewing techniques, fabric construction, knitwear design, creative pattern making, as well as marketing and merchandising using electronic design tools.
The program adopts a project-based teaching approach, encouraging students to think creatively while integrating their knowledge of garment design, technology, and market demands to solve real-world design challenges. Students also gain exposure to accessory design, including jewelry, bags, footwear, belts, and more. An in-depth study of textiles helps them develop a sensitivity to the qualities and applications of various fabrics.
Through a rich curriculum and a dynamic learning environment, students are encouraged to develop their own design philosophy and identity—one that can be evaluated both critically and professionally.
Upon graduation, students are prepared to pursue a wide range of careers in both national and international design industries. Career paths include roles such as fashion designer, fashion stylist, buyer, trend forecaster, computer-assisted designer/design interpreter, pattern engineer, entrepreneur, design manager, visual/promotional merchandiser, fashion illustrator, and designer specializing in technical, costume, ready-to-wear, or high-fashion apparel.
